Skrócony opis:

Celem przedmiotu jest przedstawienie architektury i aspektów implementacyjnych sieci transportowych opartych na wykorzystaniu protokołu IP. W ramach przedmiotu przedstawione zostaną zasady współpracy sieci warstwy pakietowej i warstwy optycznej oraz zagadnienia integracji tych warstw i protokoły ich współpracy. Przedstawiony zostanie model organizacyjny struktury sieci IP, a także zagadnienia struktury ruchu i jej związku z adresacją sieciową. Omówiona zostanie problematyka kierowania ruchu i wyboru dróg w sieci. Przedstawione zostaną wymagania stawiane sieci w zakresie niezawodności i jakości obsługi oraz zagadnienia dystrybucji informacji o stanie sieci i jej elementów. Omówiona zostanie ewolucja architektur i protokołów sieciowych wynikająca z potrzeby spełnienia tych wymagań. Omówione zostaną sposoby realizacji usług sieci transportowej, w szczególności usług VPN. Przedstawiona zostanie problematyka bezpieczeństwa informacji przekazywanych w sieci. Przedyskutowane (...)

Pełny opis: (tylko po angielsku)

The lecture aims at presenting architectures and implementation aspects of the transport networks based on the IP protocol and optical transmission. The scope covers internetworking issues between packet and optical layer of the network. Organization model of network structure is presented, and relations of network addressing to traffic patterns are discussed. The topic of traffic routing is explained. Network reliability and Quality of Service requirements are presented, and architectures and network protocols are shown evolving due to the requirements changes. Techniques of implementation of the transport network services (VPN in particular) are presented. Network node performance requirements are discussed, and their impact on implementation of HW and SW architecture is discussed.

Lecture contents

  1. Functional model of IP network (2h). Network architecture: packet layer, optical layer. ASON architecture of optical transport.

  2. IP network organization (4h): domains and their interconnections,
network segments (access, backbone/core), POPs. Network addressing.
    IPv4 and IPv6. Network traffic.

  3. IP routing (4h): intra- and interdomain routing. Distribution of
network elements state, network path selection,; routing algorithms and
routing protocols (OSPF, RIP, BGP, ISIS, CR-LDP). Traffic engineering
problem; ATM and MPLS roles. Integration of IP and optical layer; GMPLS
    architecture.

  4. Access technologies (4h). Access protocols. Network
interconnection of IP and other network technologies.

  5. Network services (4h): service traffic characteristics (elastic,
streaming); QoS and reliability requirements. Transport protocols (UDP,
TCP, RTP), their role an applications. Network architectures and
protocols aimed to support QoS (IntServ, DiffServ, RSVP, MPLS,
    RSVP-TE). Performance and scalability problems.

  6. Transport network services (4h): VPN concept and implementations.
Access security, data transfer security; IPsec. SLA contracts,

  7. Traffic handling in network nodes (4h): performance requirements,
implementation options. Node HW and SW architectures.

  8. Network elements management and network management (4h).
    Management methods and protocols.

Tutorial contents
Tutorials consists in discussion following a student presentation on a topic chosen from a pre-selected list of IETF documents (Internet standards, RFCs, drafts). Tutorial subjects are correlated with lectures and complement the lecture contents (there are also covered by tests).

Laboratory contents
The laboratory will give a hands-on experience in configuring and managing routers. Students test different routing protocols (RIP, OSPF) in a close-to-live environment: configure interfaces, check routing table, study updates, observe convergence in error situations, etc. The lab equipment is accessible from the Internet and is available in a 7*24 manner.

Applications, 5th Ed, Prentice Hall, 2009.

    4. Selected documents of IETF (standards, RFCs, drafts) and ITU-T.

    5. Articles selected from IEEE journals.

Metody i kryteria oceniania: (tylko po angielsku)

Total score is a sum of 3 parts:

  • there are 10 short tests during lectures, up to 6 points each
    (max 60 in total)

  • the lab scored up to 25 points based on the reports submitted

  • during the tutorial it is possible to score up to 25 points based
on the prepared report and its presentation by student.

The final result is based on the following pattern:

  • 5.0: 91-110 points

  • 4.5: 81-90 points

  • 4.0: 71-80 points

  • 3.5: 61-70 points

  • 3.0: 51-60 points

  • 2.0: 0-50 points
