Introduction. Basic assumptions. Types of structures, loads and deformations. External and internal forces. Internal forces in trusses. Shear forces and bending moments in beams. Internal forces in frames. Cross-sectional properties. Stress analysis in members under axial loading, torsion, shear and bending. Welded and bolted connections, calculation of stresses. Triaxial and plane stress, principal stresses and maximum shear stresses. Deflection of beams. Work and energy methods, elastic strain energy. Clapeyron's theorem, Castigliano's theorem. Virtual work. Maxwell-Mohr's formula. Calculation of displacements for beams and frames. Temperature loading, support movements, assembly errors.

[K1_W01] The graduates have knowledge of mathematics and physics enabling them to describe and understand the basic phenomena in the field of civil engineering.

[K1_W04] The graduates have knowledge of engineering mechanics, strength of materials, modelling of materials and of the principles applied to shaping and optimization of structures. Have knowledge of the fundamentals of mechanics of bar structures, including their stability and dynamics.

[K1_U05] The graduates have the ability to perform static analysis and analysis of stability and vibrations of bar systems.

[K1_U25] The graduates have understanding of the basic concepts of mechanics and can formulate its basic laws.

[K1_K01] The graduates can work on an assigned task independently or in a team. Can determine priorities to help achieve their goals.

[K1_K06] The graduates formulate conclusions and describe results of their own work. Are communicative in multimedia presentations.

Metody i kryteria oceniania: (tylko po angielsku)

Grades in the course will be based on the attendance, completion of the homework and test scores. The course ends with the Final Exam which consists of two parts, written and oral.
